The F. Scott Fitzgerald Collection at the University of South Carolina
A fascinating F. Scott Fitzgerald Collection of documents has been made available online. According to the library’s description, “This F. Scott Fitzgerald Centenary website was launched in 1996, the 100th anniversary of his birth. The site is designed to increase awareness of a great American writer and to celebrate his writings, his life, and his relationship with other writers of the twentieth century.” The collection, officially known as the Matthew J. and Arlyn Bruccoli Collection of F. Scott Fitzgerald, is held by the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, which is located in the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Ledger
One of the most interesting pieces in the Fitzgerald Collection is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s personal ledger. Fitzgerald recorded information in five categories: “Record of Published Fiction,” “Money Earned by Writing since Leaving Army,” “Published Miscelani (including movies) for which I was Paid,” “Zelda’s Earnings,” and “Outline Chart of my Life.” You may see a virtual version of the ledger or a transcription on the library website.
