Roman Weapons Video

Conquest played a significant role in the creation of the Roman Empire. This was possible partly because the Roman military was a highly-disciplined and trained force, and their equipment was carefully planned and chosen. Weapons and defensive armor were produced in small batches, using established patterns, and they were used used in a prescribed manner.

These standard patterns and uses were called the res militaris or disciplina. Its regular practice during the Roman Republic and Roman Empire led to military excellence and victory. The equipment gave the Romans a very distinct advantage over their barbarian enemies, especially so in the case of armour.
