Ivan Turgenev Biography
Ivan Turgenev (1818 – 1883) was a Russian novelist, short story writer, poet, playwright, and translator. His first major publication was a short story collection entitled A Sportsman's Sketches, which has been described as a milestone of Russian realism. In a tribute to Turgenev following his death, American author Henry James wrote of "the genius and the moral nature of the most touching of writers, the most lovable of men."
